Sub-Sector D, SS2 Utara, Petaling Jaya. Newsletter Issue No. 1: March 2010 – Strictly for Residents only

Dear Participating Residents,

A Belated Chinese New Year for the year of the Tiger.

Background.

The idea to have this security scheme for the residents staying within the inner part of SS2 bordering Jalan SS2/95, SS2/72, SS2/113 and SS2/2 was mooted since October, 2009.

After numerous meetings a small working protem committee was formed and with the approval of the Resident Association SS2 Utara, an AGM was held on 9 January 2010. A permanent committee was tasked to turn the scheme into reality. After a detailed process of selection and deliberation, the Committee awarded the job of providing security service to us to Perisai Bernas Sdn Bhd, a security company registered with the Home Ministry and the Association of Security Companies, Malaysia.

We are glad and proud to inform you that the Launching of this Security Scheme was held on Saturday, 30 January, 2010. The Officer in Charge of Police District (OCPD) Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Y. Bhg. Dato ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed, personally launched our scheme, witnessed by Y.B Dr Cheah Wing Yin and you, the supportive participants.

Initially only 80 households signed up but by the launching date the number increased to 120. However, inspite of the small number, we proceeded with it. We are confident that more residents will join in after witnessing the successful launching. In addition the hardworking committee members took time off from their weekends and went house to house to canvass for more residents to participate. We are glad to announce that we have 263 households participating in the security scheme now.

We were aware that residents were concerned about the security of their houses during the Chinese New Year period with many of them going overseas for holidays or outstation during the festive season. With that in mind, the committee instructed the security company to beef up the manpower by providing an additional 3 security guards for a period of 10 days (Friday, 12 Feb to Monday, 21 Feb). An additional guard house was put up along Jalan SS2/106 junction with Jalan SS2/107 to reinforce the patrolling. The security company also provided a Guard Dog nightly (with no additional cost) to patrol the whole area.

We are pleased to announce that no incident occurred during this period.

Incidents Report

On 11 Feb, a gas tank was stolen from the backyard of a house at around 10.30.m. (non-member but signed up immediately after that) along Jln SS 2/106. The security guards and a police patrol car chased the two Indian guys who were on the motorcycle but they managed to get away. In this incident the Police responded within 10 minutes on receiving the call from the guards

On Feb 24, there was a house break in occurred at a house along Jalan SS 2/104. (Member). According to the neighbour's daughter at around 2.30pm she saw two men (a Chinese and an Indonesian) entered this house but she thought that they were contractors. Anyway the police are still conducting their investigation. Total damage was around RM 1,000 and the items stolen were some jewelleries and about RM 600 of the daughter’s ang pow. It was unfortunate that the guards were not alerted.

On Feb 24 at the same place the guards spotted one red Proton Iswara with 3 Chinese men. When the guards approached them they drove off. The guards didn’t manage to get their number plate as it was dark.

On Feb. 25, an attempted robbery occurred at a house along Jalan SS 2/100 (non member). At 8.30 pm, three youngsters tried to rob a family when they were entering into the house compound, they hit the man, in the presence of his son and his wife. While the fighting was going on, the security personnel came but the assailants managed to run away. However the attempted robbery was foiled. It is believed that these three youngsters were hiding behind Jalan SS 2/109 and waiting for the chance to strike.

Volunteers to assist in canvassing for more subscribers to the security scheme.

We would like to make a plea for more volunteers to assist in recruiting more household to participate in this security scheme, bearing in mind that with more participants, we would then be able to provide more facilities to enhance the overall safety of the residents, contributing to Peace of Mind.

Thank you

Bobby Chan, Chairman, Sub-Sector D, SS2 Utara, Petaling Jaya
