SS2D Residents’ Meeting on 27.6.2010 at Tennis Court Gazebo, SS2/104 (5 pm to 6.40 pm)

Attendance: SC Chairman, Deputy Chairman and 3 members, Insp. Gunam & his officers, En. Zul (PB), RT Chairman and about 30 residents.

Suggestions/feedback/issues discussed:

  1. The OCS of SEAPARK (SS2) Balai Polis, Insp. Gunam, briefed the residents on the security situation at SS2 :

    • After discussing and coordinating with SS2D Security Committee, he said the Police has decided to set up a Police Beat Post at junction SS2/2 & SS2/103 which will be 24 hours manned. This is the first such Police post ever at a residential area, even though it may not be on a permanent basis;

    • Police personnel, in uniform and plain clothed, will patrol SS2D areas, in addition to the regular patrolling carried out by security guards;

    • If residents go out of their house for few hours leaving nobody at home, or if they balik kampung during festive seasons, they can inform the police on duty at the Police Beat Base so that when the police go patrolling, they can watch out for their houses.

    • Police road block at SS2/2 beside Bomba was temporary relocated to Taman Bahagia because of rising crimes over there.

  2. The SS2D website (blog) should be improved/enhanced so that residents can directly ask questions or give comments / feedbacks, whether favourable or negative, without the need to write e-mail separately.

  3. One resident pointed out that there is no guard post or blinking lights at SS2/96 beside Bomba even though some drums are placed there, unlike 2/107 or 2/90. The SC Chairman replied that because of insufficient members, collection is not enough to set up any additional post. Partial blockage of road with blinking lights is also not carried out because it is very dark at night and can pose a traffic hazard. To set up altogether 4 posts as originally planned, at least 150 additional members are required.

  4. Another resident asked about the crime statistics before and after the security scheme was introduced. Unfortunately, there was no specific data available. However, generally the crime rate has come down. It is noted that SS2 was chosen as a KPI area because it is a crime hot spot and this led to YAB PM’s recent visit.

  5. SS2D security scheme membership started with about 100 on launching day, going up to 230 after 1 month and by the end of the 1st quarter was at 265. It rose to 285 at one point and now stands at 280 despite 8 withdrawal mainly due to residents/tenants shifting out. One new member from 2/113 was recruited on the spot.

  6. The security coverage area includes 2/72 and 2/95 despite their low participation rate because the RA feels they should be included as one big family of SS2D and no one should be left out.

  7. Clocking points are installed at various points including 2/72 to ensure patrolling guards actually do their rounds.

  8. Residents are informed that crimes are more likely to be committed when it is raining since unusual noises are not so easily heard. Residents are advised to keep an eye on unfamiliar car or vehicle moving round and round as well as strangers wearing low caps to intentionally cover their faces. Crime rate is expected to go up when the SS2Mall is open towards the end of the year. Despite the presence of Police and security guards, residents are still advised to exercise caution and constant vigilance in order to safeguard their own security first.

  9. Residents present are requested by the SC Chairman to help out by:

    • Providing electricity to guard post if so needed;

    • Joining the Security Committee ( Any resident interested is invited to the SC meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday every month at Restoran Ibrahim Maju at SS2/72);

    • Persuading their neighbours to join the security scheme. (Application forms were distributed during the meeting)

  10. Resident Mr. Lee of 11, SS2/111 (Tel: 016 3289000) has kindly offered to print any newsletters/circulars/leaflets, etc. for SC to help the committee cuts cost.

  11. Resident, Mr. Chong, has suggested that the monthly Residents’ Meeting be held at the SS2/95 school canteen. However, due to budget constraint and that the canteen operator may not be available on Sunday, it is not practical to conduct it there. Anyway, Mr. Chong is requested to speak to Mr. Ong Beng Tiong to check whether it is possible to use the Dewan (badminton hall) for free, if the canteen is unavailable.

  12. In the event of any emergency, telephone numbers to call are as follows:

    Guard / Supervisor016-910 8602
    Police03 -7874 2222
    03 -7875 1766
